You're right,...Agreed. Facebook is diabolical.

You're right, it certainly doesn't give any springiness back into a Platen, but it does give it a tiny bit more flex. On the motorcycle forums that I occasionally grace, a lot of people use it to add elasticity to hardened weatherproofing boots. They usually soak it in the stuff for a few days, but it does give flexibility back. So it can - depending on the rubber, penetrate quite deep.

Still. There's no substitute for replacing the rubber. (Never trust Facebook for anything.)

I have not found that brake fluid changes the underlying hardness of a platen -- it affects only the outermost layer. Microns, as you said. However, that is good for improving grip.Richard Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16232053429935587826noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120715572940256008.post-68987333535591723502012-10-10T04:51:18.917-07:002012-10-10T04:51:18.917-07:00I think I ended up coating it - maybe 5 times? It was also quite hot in the shed that I did it with.

The effect as great as I'd liked, as it really only returned the rubbery feel to the surface more than anything - but it didn't soak right into the platen from what I can tell, unlike how most other people's units have. It let me get more grip, but it didn't soften it all that much. Not like it has with others. I might run out of steam eventually...

The Facebook issue was a bit more complex than I was willing to go into, and I'm going to be watching it - but from afar. It is more about how people are using technology to directly bully people whose opinions they do not agree with. It is frightening to think about it, but people are being paid to manipulate social media on an increasingly large scale. This incident was just another knife-edge result of this. Facebook's staff are both too incompetent and lazy to be able to deal with the oncoming storm.Scott Khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13243020164163596709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2120715572940256008.post-7324837113000945042012-10-09T15:17:44.805-07:002012-10-09T15:17:44.805-07:00Well thank you! I try to avoid talking politics at all there; I am afraid I'm being scrutinized by them already. It's a shame that we must sensor ourselves so, but I suppose that in some instances, it's the safest option. Very glad your friend got his account back! He sounds epically entertaining.

Good job with the Bijou! It's a really gorgeous little machine. I have several that I really need to do something with the rubber on, but I'm really loath to do so. I may just do the Saran Wrap quick fix, for the time being.

Thanks for being such an interesting and compelling blogger, and here's to 50 times 500 more posts!
